Land clearing for villa construction in Hua Thanon

A plot in the south of the island had been sitting unused for years. Palms, trees, dense undergrowth and uneven sand mounds had taken over the land completely, making it impossible to start construction without a full clearance first. The job was to strip the site back to bare, level ground.

How we approached it

Plots like this one - overgrown, with deep-rooted palms and trees near boundary walls - need the right combination of machines. We brought two excavators: the Yanmar B32 for the open areas and heavy roots, and the Yanmar VIO70 for work along the boundary wall. The VIO70's zero tail swing lets it operate right up to the edge without risk of hitting the concrete - something a standard excavator can't do safely.

Running both machines in parallel meant we could clear a substantial plot in two days rather than four.

What the work involved

The trees and palms were felled, tipped and the root systems dug out completely - leaving roots in the ground causes problems later when the soil settles. Bushes and undergrowth were stripped, scattered sand mounds leveled and any pits or hollows filled. The Hino 300 ran continuous trips to haul everything off site for proper disposal.

Working on sloped terrain in the south of the island also meant paying attention to how the cleared ground would drain - we shaped the surface with a slight natural slope to prevent water pooling once the vegetation was gone.

Result

Two days, two excavators, one truck. The plot went from overgrown jungle to a clean, flat, workable surface. The client was satisfied with both the result and how the job was managed - clean site, no damage to the boundary wall, waste fully removed.

Land clearance done properly at this stage saves significant time and cost later. A site that's clean, level and draining correctly gives every subsequent trade - surveyors, foundation crews, builders - the best possible starting point.
